Why Volunteer

It’s More Than Just a Rally — It’s an Experience You’ll Never Forget

Volunteering with Rally New Zealand means being part of something bigger. You’re not just helping run an event — you’re joining a community of passionate, down-to-earth people who love the sport, love the challenge, and love a good yarn at the end of a long day.

Whether you’ve grown up around rally cars or are just curious to get involved, there’s a place for everyone here — and plenty to gain along the way.

Here’s why our volunteers keep coming back, year after year:

✔️ Be at the heart of the action – Get up close to world-class rally cars, iconic stages, and the people who make it all happen.

✔️ Build skills and confidence – You’ll pick up practical knowledge, leadership experience, problem-solving skills, and even a few life lessons along the way. Plus, there’s always someone around to teach you the ropes.

✔️ Make lifelong connections – Some of the strongest friendships in rallying start on the side of a gravel road. Our volunteers come from all walks of life, and have plenty of banter.

✔️ Give back to the sport (and your community) – Without volunteers, rallying simply doesn’t happen. Your time and energy make a real difference — not just to the competitors, but to the fans, organisers, and fellow volunteers too.

✔️ Be part of a world-class team – Rally New Zealand has a proud history of running safe, professional, and unforgettable events — and our volunteers are a huge part of that success.

✔️ Have a great time doing it – Yes, there can be early starts and muddy boots, but there are also stunning views, big moments, good laughs, and the kind of memories you’ll be talking about for years.

Partnerships

The Rally NZ Club takes pride in working closely with the NZRC – and enjoys providing our volunteers the opportunity to travel across the country to various motorsport events, getting to do what they love in new and exciting environments.

With each round of the NZRC hosted by local car clubs, we as a national volunteer body are there to provide extra manpower and support as and when needed. We also provide organisational support if required, with many of our volunteers belonging to more than one car club.

We are also the first point of call for large-scale international events, including the International Rally of Whangarei and the World Rally Championship.

Currently the NZ Rally season runs predominantly from April through to November, with some local car club events extending these dates eitherside. However, during the down-time, there is still plenty of motorsport to get involved with across NZ, including track circuit racing.

At Rally NZ we’re proud to help create opportunities for our volunteers across both classifications of motorsport, and are partners with The Motorsport Club at Hampton Downs to keep you involved all year round. Please get in touch if you’d like more info on how to get involved with circuit racing.
